About Dr. Pooja Nandwani Patel

Dr. Pooja Nandwani Patel is a Radiation Oncologist (Gold Medalist and Gujarat University - first) working in the field of cancer since 2005.
Currently, she is Director of Radiation Oncology Department at Sterling Hospitals, Ahmedabad. Her personality is perhaps a unique combination of empathy, efficiency and excellence.
In the span of 20+ years of her journey in radiation oncology she has collaborated with highly trained medical physicists to create individual radiation treatment plans for each of her patients. Her capabilities have been highlighted frequently by various institutions and organizations. She is a very passionate Radiation Oncologist with patient care as the main focus in her daily practice. She is President of AROI (Association of Radiation Oncologists of Gujarat) Gujarat Chapter.
She has recently been awarded very prestigious “Excellence in Radiation Oncology Award 2024” on 16th March 2024 at Lucknow from Shri Brajesh Pathak - Honourable Deputy Chief Minister UP and Dr Sudhanshu Trivedi -Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) & BJP National Spokesperson. She is also awarded “Fellow of Indian College of Radiation Oncology (FICRO)” at The Third Indian Cancer Congress (ICC), Mumbai on 2nd -5th November 2023. She has many national and international publications to her credit and recently contributed a chapter “Osteoradionecrosis of the mandible post Radiation of Head and neck cancers” to “Complications of Cancer Therapy: Best Practices in Prevention and Management.
Dr Pooja Nandwani Patel has received very prestigious Parvati Devi Gold Medal, T B Patel Gold Medal and T B Patel Silver Medal during her professional journey. She has also received the “Most Promising Young Oncologist Award” from Indian Cancer Society in 2012. She has been the recipient of many popular fellowships from AROI (Association of Radiation Oncologists of India), ASTRO (American Society of Radiation, ESTRO (European Society for Radiotherapy & Oncology), IGCS (International Gynecological Cancer Society), SNO (Society of NeuroOncology) and ASCO (American Society of Clinical Oncology).
She has been trained at reputed international cancer centres abroad including Christie School of Oncology, NHS Foundation Trust, Manchester, England, Mannheim University, Mannheim, Germany, Newcastle upon Tyne Hospital, NHS Foundation Trust, England, United Kingdom, Kaiser Permanente Medical Hospital, Santa Clara, California, USA, Princess Margaret Hospital, Toronto, Canada, Long Beach Memorial Medical Centre, Long Beach, USA and The Methodist Hospital, Houston, USA.
Her primary research interests involve head and neck malignancies, gynecological malignancies, breast cancer, prostate cancer and brain tumors. She is very keen to utilize her acquired knowledge through various international fellowships and training done abroad into clinical practice for the betterment of her patients. She is founder of WOGOG (Women Oncologists Group of Gujarat). She has also been actively involved in public awareness programs on Television, Radio Channels, various social media platforms and actively involved in camps and awareness activities like World No Tobacco Day at Sabarmati Riverfront and at various organizations like ESIS etc. She is on panel for ONGC, RGHS, GNFC, ISRO, UGVCL, PGVCL and IFFCO (Kalol) and also an Advisory Board Member for OncoZenge Biotechnology Company, Sweden developing pathbreaking treatment for head and neck mucositis.
She has actively involved in many trials as Principal Investigator and Co-investigator.
She is also Assistant Editor for National Journal Of Radiation Oncologists of India JCRT( Journal Cancer of Research and Therapeutics), Member of Editorial Board of The Cancer Immunology Journal, Reviewer for Acta Medica International Journal. She is a Recognized Teacher and Examiner for MD Radiation Oncology under Gujarat University, recognized Examiner for MD and DNB course at various universities and National Faculty at Indian College of Radiation Oncology (ICRO) for post graduate students of Radiation Oncology from all over the country.
